A revolution is taking place in the Media Communications field as low cost digital tools and the internet make it possible for anyone to become a content producer. As more video is being distributed on the web, there will be a demand for individuals in every occupation that have professional knowledge and skills to create media with high production values.

CERTIFICATION

PROject based learning

  • Project-based learning is an instructional model that involves students in investigations of compelling problems that culminate in authentic product.
  • We use these strategies to help students apply their technical skills and creativity to solving real world communication problems by means of many hands-on collaborative projects.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

Successful students will be able to competently perform these technical communications skills.
  • Produce an interactive demo reel with a variety of video and audio projects to demonstrate knowledge of media design and technical production skills meeting professional standards.
  • Design visual composition and stylistic treatments to meet client objectives utilizing the design process. (storyboard)
  • Demonstrate effective use industry standard techniques, equipment and software.
  • Use creative cinematography (camera control, shot types, camera angles and movement)
  • Design lighting treatments appropriate for the scene. (3-point lighting)
  • Demonstrate clear audio recording & editing.
  • Produce smooth post-production digital editing, transitions and visual effects.
  • Create quality titles and graphics using design and typography principles.
  • Publish media using appropriate distribution formats; DVD, Web video, podcasting, and streaming.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

INTEGRATED ELA ACADEMIC CREDIT
  • Communicate verbally and in writing on topics related to Media Communications with appropriate use of technical language.
  • Research, write, report and produce a series of broadcast journalism style news feature shows, interviews, or instructional programing for internet broadcast.
  • Plan, write and produce a commercial, public service announcement or instructional video for internet broadcast
  • Write and present an article summary on a media related topic citing professional trade related journal sources.
